Mr. Billy Gene “Santa” Craven, 70, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, April 22, 2003, in Amarillo.
He was born on May 26, 1932, in Wellington, Texas.
He moved to Amarillo in 1961 from Clovis. He served in the Army for two years and the Air Force for four years. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He married Shirley Anne Temple in 1955. He worked for the City of Amarillo for several years as a heavy equipment operator. He retired from Medley Material Handling in 1978. After his retirement he served as Santa Claus for more than 15 years at Western Plaza. He married Nancy Doose in 1988 in Reno, Nev.
He is survived by his wife of the home; two daughters, Renee Beth Wineinger and Koenia Annette Craven, both of Amarillo; two sons, Charles Don Craven and Larry Gene Craven, both of Amarillo; a stepson, Rex Burch of Vallejo, Calif.; a brother, Jimmy Craven of Clovis; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Services were held at Rector Funeral Home Chapel in Amarillo.
Jimmy Craven and Johnny Tracy officiated.
Military rites were by the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 26.
Burial was at Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis.
Arrangements were by Rector Funeral Home of Amarillo.
