Sam Sena, a 50-year-old Fort Sumner resident, has a quest. He aims to walk 53 miles — 212 laps — today in the Relay for Life at Fort Sumner High School.
Sena said he’ll make the walk in honor of his brother, Michael, who of died of leukemia March 5.
Sam, who survived colon cancer himself in 1988, said he this is the second time he’ll aim to make 53 miles in the relay. Two years ago he walked 52.9 miles.
Michael, who was the activities director at the Pecos Valley Nursing Home, was one of his biggest supporters, he said.
“I’m doing it for my brother. He’s the one who always encouraged me to do my best. And for the Lord, who gives me the strength,” Sam said.
