Shower organizers hope to help cover costs of triplets

Friends of Kyle and Liza Snider are organizing a special baby shower to provide diapers for the couple, who on May 30 became the parents of triplets.
“Some of us friends just thought this would be a nice thing to do,” said Ellen Gant, one of the organizers. “We’ve gone to the mall stores and some of them are helping out. In the past a lot of diaper companies would give families of multiple births diapers for a year, but they don’t do that anymore.”
Gant said buying three sets of diapers would cost about $60 per week, creating a large expense for parents with more than one child.
The three triplets, Mikalea, Lindsey and Alexis, weighed about 3 pounds when born and now weigh 5 to 6 pounds each. Alexis and Lindsey are identical twins; Mikalea is a fraternal twin.
The three newborns join two older sisters, one 19 and one 16.
Donations will be collected from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at P&C Storage, 1520 Mitchell, or any time at Katie’s Flowerland at the same address.
