Mrs. Pauline Vaughn Lofton, 87, of Bellview, a housewife, died Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
She was born on Dec. 16, 1915, in Hollene, to Thomas and Cora Turner Vaughn.
She graduated valedictorian of her class in 1933 in Hollene. She met her future husband in school and they married Oct. 27, 1934. They lived their entire married life farming in the Hollene community. She was the first Curry County Fair Queen in 1931. Family members said she enjoyed cooking, giving special pies to friends, neighbors and family, making afghans and other crochet projects and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph Lofton; siblings, Chester, Bryan, Hollie, Artie and Roy Vaughn and Ruby Foster.
She is survived by her children, Nola Dean Gunnells (and husband, Charlie) of Clovis, Tommy Lofton of Bellview, James Lofton (and wife, Roxie) of Clovis and Donald Lofton of Anchorage, Alaska; two sisters, Robbie Lee Thompkins and Lela Stockton, both of Clovis; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The Revs. Farrell Odom and Amanda Garrison will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Hollene Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Pat Woods, Eddie Harrington, Charles B. Stockton, Douglas Lofton, Moreland Harrington, Paul Dean Gunnels and Joel Joyce.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grady and Broadview volunteer fire departments, Alumni Scholarship Program at Grady School or Grady Methodist Church
