Mrs. Fern Ingham, 86, of Portales, died Wednesday, July 9, 2003, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.
She was born on April 12, 1917, in Washburn, Texas, to Frances and John J. Grimes.
She grew up in the Washburn area. She graduated from high school in Dumas, Texas. For a time she was employed as a seamstress in Amarillo. She married John W. Ingham on June 11, 1937. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Albuquerque, and was active in Sunday School. She and her husband raised race horses for a number of years, which they raced in Raton, El Paso, Texas, and at the New Mexico State Fair. Since October 2001 she had been a resident at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She is survived by a son, John W. Ingham (and wife, Lois) of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Martha Sharp (Bill) of Fort Sumner; five grandchildren, Jeanell Paiz of Portales, David Sharp of Roswell, Eric Sharp of McIntosh, Wesley Ingham of Tucson and Ken Ingham of Austin, Texas; two great-grandchildren, Jewlie and Kody Paiz; two nieces and two nephews, Betty Biggs, Virginia Cleveland and Jim and Ben Naylor.
The Rev. Bill Fuller will officiate the services.
Honorary pallbearers will be her family members.
