Mr. Wesley Williams, 69, of Portales, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2003, at his home in Portales.
Mr. Williams was born May 30, 1934, in Slagle, La., to Edith and Elijah J. Williams.
He grew up in Louisiana and, in 1952, joined the Air Force, where he served for 20 years. In 1956 he was stationed at Cannon Air Force Base. During this time he met Judy Heisch and the couple was married Sept.1, 1957, in Portales.
After his discharge they returned to Portales to make their home and care for his wife’s mother. For about a year, he worked for Noble Sikes. He then began a career as a letter carrier for the U.S. Post Office, where he worked until 1992.
Family members said Mr. Williams especially liked to work with the Royal Rangers, a discipleship training program for boys. He also liked gardening and yard work, and his special pastime, fishing.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his parents, as well as by a brother and a sister.
He is survived by his wife, of Portales; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ray and Teresa Williams of Lake Worth, Texas, and Randall and Penny Williams of Spring Hill, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Nathan and Rachel Williams, and Emily Williams; two brothers, Andrew Williams of Slagle, La., and Jerry Dale Williams of Leesville, La.; three sisters, Cleo Bruynincks of Annacoca, La., Pearl Bruce of Lake Charles, La., and Carolyn Parker of Annacoca, La.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Family Center or to the Royal Rangers.
The body will be available for viewing until 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
Revs. Jim Maxwell and Larry Veazey will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
