BOVINA 12, AMARILLO TASCOSA JV 7 — At Bovina, sophomore defensive end Eddie Segovia blocked a Tascosa field goal attempt and returned it 92 yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter, bringing the Mustangs back to life.
Still down 7-6, Bovina (4-2) drove 46 yards in 13 plays for the go-ahead score with about a minute left. Quarterback Jeff Casas scored the touchdown on a 1-yard sneak, the last of three fourth-down conversions on the drive for the Mustangs.
Bovina finished with a 212-147 margin in total offense, led by senior Jonathan Chisom’s 112 yards rushing on 21 carries.
The Rebels grabbed a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter on a 1-yard pass from Dane Sitton to Jeff Gilmore.
TATUM 62, MELROSE 30 — At Melrose, the unbeaten Coyotes cruised to victory despite the absence of brothers Art and Alberto Castro, who missed the game due to family matters.
Rusty Hale ran 52 yards for a touchdown and threw six scoring passes for the Coyotes (5-0), including TD strikes of 22 and 58 yards to Jacob Eubank in the first quarter. Tatum’s Rene Cruz added a 60-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
The win was the second this season for Tatum over the Buffaloes (4-2).
CLAYTON 34, FORT SUMNER 13 — At Clayton, Cesar Urrutia rushed for 155 yards on 18 carries as the Yellowjackets, ranked No. 5 in Class 2A, thumped the Foxes, ranked second in Class 1A.
Logan Capps scored on a 1-yard run and completed 6 of 13 passes for 111 yards for Clayton (5-1), including TD passes of 25 yards to Urrutia and 20 yards to Ricardo Sisneros. Urrutia also kicked four extra points.
Sophomore Ryan Fikany scored both touchdowns for the Foxes (4-2) on runs of 45 and 34 yards.
LOGAN 58, CLOVIS CHRISTIAN 6 — At Logan, running back Kirk Burns scored four touchdowns and threw for another as the host Longhorns (3-3) ended their game with CCS on a 45-point lead rule at halftime.
Burns scored on runs of 25, 6, 1 and 10 yards and threw a 10-yard scoring pass to Drew Perez. Josh Franco added a 60-yard touchdown run for Logan, and also connected with Chris Martinez on TD tosses of 50 and 15 yards.
CCS (2-2) pulled even at 6-6 in the first quarter on a 10-yard touchdown run by Cory Hastings.
PORTALES 49, EUNICE 0 — At Blackwater Draw, the host Rams made quick work of Eunice Friday night, using a 28-point second quarter to take control of the game at Greyhound Stadium..
Quarterback Seth Clabaugh led the charge for Portales, which racked up 346 of its 433 yards in the first half. Clabaugh rushed for touchdowns of 7, 45 and 50 yards and also threw scoring passes to Austin Pullen and Cole Parrish.
Clabaugh ran for 146 yards and threw for 123 yards in the first half.
Eunice managed just seven first downs and 114 yards of offense against Portales, which played substitutes throughout the second half.
Parrish had a 4-yard TD run for Portales, while Deonte Wyche ended the scoring with a 55-yard reception in the third quarter.
Landon White led Eunice with 46 yards rushing on 13 carries and had one reception for 19 yards.
