Olen Lowe, 90, of Portales, died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2003, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.
He was born Nov. 28, 1912, in Fairplay, Mo., to Nora and Walter Lowe.
Mr. Olen moved to Texas when he was young, and lived in Borger for several years, where he worked in the oil fields. He married Mary Ann Bobo in Portales on Nov. 24, 1931. In 1943, He entered the U.S. Army and served during World War II. Upon discharge, he returned to working in the oil fields and operating a 100-acre farm west of Portales. He then began working as a farm mechanic, and was employed by the Terry Dairy Farm for many years. He had been a resident of the Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales since 1997.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Chester Lowe; a half-brother, Walter Lowe, Jr.; two sisters: Kathleen Lowe and Pearl Imoe; and his wife.
Mr. Lowe is survived by several nieces and nephews including Patricia Hamilton of Kalispell, Mont., and Gaylon Bobo of Portales; several cousins including Louise Bilderback of California; and many friends.
The graveside service will be officiated by the Rev. Garlan Hughes.
Mr. Lowe’s friends have been asked to serve as honorary pallbearers.
