WEATHERFORD, Okla. — Cer Edwards’ 3-pointer with four seconds left on Saturday lifted Southwestern Oklahoma past Eastern New Mexico University 51-49 in a Lone Star Conference men’s crossover game.

Edwards’ 3-pointer was the Bulldogs’ only field goal in the final six minutes. SWOSU (10-4) dominated early, fell behind by nine points with 15 minutes left before mounting a comeback while handing Eastern its first loss in crossover play.

Lee J. Kirkpatrick went 8-for-9 off the bench to lead all scorers with 16 points for SWOSU. Jamaal Shell and reserve Marcel Justin added 11 points each for the Bulldogs.

Junior forward Jamaal Hunnicutt was the only player in double figures for ENMU (10-4), scoring 14 points. The loss snapped the Greyhounds’ eight-game winning streak.

Southwestern held the Hounds scoreless for the first four minutes and opened a 6-0 lead, but ENMU mounted a 12-1 run and took a 15-12 lead with 6:50 left in the half after Travazz Buckley and Brent Cooper converted consecutive steals into layups.

SWOSU countered with an 11-2 run, but Hunnicutt’s 3-point play and a 3-pointer by junior Edmound Elzy in the final minute left the teams tied 23-23 at halftime.

Eastern outscored the Bulldogs 13-2 to open its nine-point cushion (36-27) with 15 minutes left, but the Hounds made only five field goals the rest of the half.

Elzy’s 3-pointer pulled ENMU to 48-47 with 4:46 left, and Hunnicutt’s rebound basket gave the Hounds the lead with 2:32 left. The teams then combined for nine empty possessions before Edwards’ game-winner.

For the game, the Hounds shot 39 percent from the field, were outrebounded 33-28 and made only 5-of-13 free throws.
