Melrose Mayor Ray Hester was named Rotary Club Citizen of the Year on Monday at the annual Melrose Chamber of Commerce banquet.
“He does everything,” Chamber of Commerce member Hank Jordan said of Hester. “He’s all over the place.”
Other award winners on Monday included the American Heritage Bank, which was selected Business of the Year, and Becky Reed of Melrose, who was named Professional Person of the Year.
Jordan said Reed received the honor because she coached the Melrose cheerleaders who have won several state championships.
In addition to coaching cheerleaders, Reed works as a registered pharmacist.
Panzy Jordan was named Workhorse of the Year.
“She was one of the driving forces in getting our downtown beautification started,” Hank Jordan said. “She helped restart Welcome Wagon for welcoming new people into the community.”
The theme for the annual banquet was, “Working for Our Community All Year Long.”
Melrose has a population of about 750.
