Earl McIntire, 70, died Saturday, Jan. 17, 2004, at Laurel Plains Nursing Home in Clovis.
He was born Jan. 14, 1934, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, to Ella and Bill McIntire.
Mr. McIntire spent his early childhood in Sulphur Springs before his family moved to Portales in 1946. He attended Portales Public Schools and helped his father in the grocery business when he was a teenager. He married Frieda Starnes in March 1968 and worked as a butcher by trade.
Family members said he was a “people person” who loved everyone, especially children and the elderly. He became a Christian as a young man and served the Lord faithfully. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Caldwell, Texas, where he made his home. He had been in failing health for several years, and was looking forward to being with the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Harold and Allen McIntire; and by his wife, Frieda McIntire, who died in April 2003.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy McIntire of Clovis and Brenda (and husband, Gene) Wasik of Bryan, Texas; a stepson, Richard (and wife, Phyllis) Davidson of Clovis; three sisters, Ora Lee Johnson and Bernice (and husband, Bill) Pennington, all of Farwell, and Sue Burcham of Portales; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a special step-granddaughter, Amber.
Ralph Franse, a dear friend, will officiate the service.
Burial will be in Portales Cemetery.
All family members and friends are honorary pallbearers.
Arrangements are under the direction of Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
