Inez McCain Brown, 95, of Portales, died Saturday, Feb. 7, 2004, at Heartland Continuing Care Center in Portales.
She was born on Aug. 25, 1908, in Hamlin, Texas, to Bertha and Henry Clay Bush.
She grew up on the family farm in Paducah, Texas. She married Lee McCain in 1924. They moved to Portales in 1950 from Enochs, Texas. A year later, Mr. McCain passed away.
She married Richard Brown on Dec. 3, 1954. He passed away in 1979. She raised nine children. Family members said she was an excellent cook and homemaker who enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, reading and watching television. She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Portales.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Lillie Standridge and Bernice Morrison; three sons, Wesley, Jake and Koie McCain; two daughters, Laurella and Carma Leta McCain; and by both of her husbands.
Survivors include a son and two daughters-in-law, Roy McCain (and wife, Ruby) and Sammie “Mrs. Koie” McCain, all of Portales; three daughters, Elsie Wheeler (Edwin) of Weatherford, Texas, Corine Gossett (Harold) of Portales and Colleen and Jerry Widener of Ruidoso; three step daughters, Patsy Bennett (Charles) of Belen, Linda Lutes (Roger) of Granbury, Texas and Billie Jean Russell (Truman) of Los Lunas; 26 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Scott P. Reeves will officiate the services.
Honorary pallbearers are her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Arrangements are by Wheeler Mortuary of Portales.
