Electricity went out Thursday at two Clovis locations and one in Muleshoe, cutting power to an unknown number of customers.
Xcel Energy spokesman Bill Crenshaw said Thursday evening utility repair crews hadn’t determined the cause of the outages.
Crenshaw said the Clovis outages began about 6 p.m. and an outage at the 100 block of Cravey Street on the west of Clovis appeared to have been caused by a power transformer failure. A second outage near Chaparral Country Club stretched south along Axtell and Gidding streets and may have been caused by a line fuse. Linemen hadn’t determined what caused the failures, he said.
“Excel Energy has a serviceman working in one position and a crew in the other,” Crenshaw said. “The restoration time is entirely dependent upon what is wrong in that piece of equipment.”
Crenshaw said he wasn’t aware of the Muleshoe outage, which residents in the area said began about 8:45 p.m. (CST), but Muleshoe police said Xcel personnel were on the scene making repairs.
