The Clovis City Commission will hold a budget hearing beginning at 9 a.m. today in the assembly room at city hall.
Finance Director Don Clifton said the meeting is to discuss and plan the 2004-05 fiscal year budget, which projects revenue of $47 million and $53 million in expenses. Clifton said that’s been typical in recent years as the city has been drawing down its reserve fund, which is currently at $23 million but is projected to drop to $17 million over the next year.
While there will be a deficit at the end of the year, Clifton said he hopes it won’t be as bad as the $6 million projected deficit.
“This is a pattern,” Clifton said. “We always come out better than we expected; it’s a very normal sequence.”
