School official stable after heart surgery

A Clovis schools assistant superintendent is in stable condition after suffering from a heart attack late Monday night, a school official said Tuesday afternoon.

Lonnie Leslie, assistant superintendent of operations, was recovering from a successful quadruple-bypass surgery Tuesday afternoon at Lubbock Heart Hospital, said Jelayne Curtis, secretary to Superintendent Neil Nuttall.

His vitals were stable, and doctors believe there is no injury to his heart, Curtis said.

Leslie began working at Clovis schools as a shop teacher in 1972, and became assistant superintendent in the early 1990s for a brief stint before returning to teaching for a few years. He was rehired as assistant superintendent in 1998.
