Mr. Gene Shirley, 72, of Clovis, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2004, at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.
He was born on Aug. 31, 1932, in Clayton, to John and Kate Harris Shirley.
He attended Eastern New Mexico University in Portales from 1950 to 1954 and received a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He earned an MBA with an emphasis in marketing in 1955. He served in the U.S. Army as a first lieutenant in the finance corps from March 1957 to March 1965.
He retired from General Electric Company after 25 years of service.
He was an avid supporter of ENMU and promoter of higher education.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anne; and a son, Jim.
Survivors include cousins, Gerald and Marry Harris and Joe Elrod, all of Abilene, Texas, David Elrod of Big Spring, Texas, Txia Collins of Arlington, Texas, and Marie Yingling of Seasry, Ark.; an adopted daughter, Carol Qualls; adopted grandchildren, Brian and Chris Cherry; a godchild, James Ford; a cherished friend, Mary Northcutt; a friend and caregiver, Kay Daniel; and Annabel and Max Ford and Doug and Jane Ford and family.
Thomas P. Jones will officiate the services.
Cremation has taken place.
Entombment will be held at a later date at Plains Sanctuary Mausoleum in Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis.
Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.
