A Clovis man who greeted police with a handgun Monday night at his residence was arrested on charges of aggravated assault on a police officer, police said.

Police initially sought to question Eduarodo Ordonez, 27, on potential charges of battery on a household member. But when they approached his home in the 600 block of Johnson Street he opened the door with a handgun pointed at police, officials said.

Ordonez quickly went back inside the home, prompting officers to shut down two blocks on Seventh Street west of Norris Street for about 15 minutes as a safety precaution.

A friend phoned Ordonez and pursuaded him to surrender to law enforcement officials, said Clovis police Lt. Ron Hutchison.

No injuries were reported in the incident.
