Wendell D. Horton Sr., 63, of Navajo Dam, died Monday, March 7, 2005, in Navajo Dam.
He was born on May 10, 1941, in Clovis, to Willard K. Horton and Estelle Paddock.
He married Sylvia Ellen Beasley on March 3, 1962, in Farmington. He worked in road construction until 1969, when he went to work for Phelps Dodge Cooper Mine in Silver City. In 1979 they moved to Wright, Wyo. where he was a coal miner for the Black Thunder Mine. The family then moved to Grant where he continued to mine coal for the Lee Ranch Coal Mine. He retired in 2002. Family members said after his retirement they bought their dream home at Navajo Dam, where they loved to sit on the back porch and watch the river go by.
He was preceded in death by his father; and a sister, Donna Fuller.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Wendell Dale Horton Jr. (and wife, Carlene) of Farmington; a daughter, Lura Lee Moore (Don) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; five grandchildren, Stephanie, Tyler, and Trey Moore, Terence Smith (Monica) and Carla Jean Garcia; and five great-grandchildren, Alexcia, Desmond, and Isaiah Smith and Kristina and Kayla Garcia.
Joseph Bunce will officiate the services.
Arrangements are by Brewer, Lee and Larkin Funeral Home and Crematory of Farmington.
