Police are investigating the discovery of white power in an envelope Thursday at the PNM Gas office at 600 Georgia St.
A police field test identified the substance as benzoyl peroxide, which can cause eye irritation and may irritate the skin with prolonged contact.
A representative of the company told police when the envelope was opened, there were two more envelopes inside, one with the white powder and one with torn up paper.
The Clovis Police Department is investigating the incident as a criminal matter and a suspect has been identified, a press release from the department showed.
“Nobody’s been arrested,” said Sgt. James Schoeffel of the Clovis Police Department. He added no further information on the suspect would be released while the investigation was ongoing or before an arrest is made.
