Alta Joy Neie, 79, of Corrales, died Monday, April 25, 2005, at her home.
She was born on Aug. 25, 1925, to Luther and Molissie Gardner in Hamilton, Texas.
She married Oliver C. Neie on April 9, 1950, in Hamilton, Texas. She grew up on a farm in the Blue Ridge Community with four older brothers. Her dad named her Joy because he said she was such a blessing and he wanted her to wear pink. She moved to Corrales in 1962 and was a member of Harwood United Methodist Church. Family members said she was dedicated to her family and treasured the family reunions. She left a legacy of recording the family history by compiling pictures and albums. Family members said she enjoyed sewing and made all of her own clothes. Rocking a baby was her favorite pastime.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
She is survived by her husband; four children, Elaine McCoy (and husband, Lester), Gary Neie, Gail Scott (Michael), and Glen Neie (Freda); eight grandchildren, Dean McCoy, Kristi Victor (Darrell), Karen Waldrip (Josh), Tracy Scott, Carl Neie (Kendra), Curtis Scott, Colter Neie (Brandi) and Shawn Neie; and six great-grandchildren that family members said were special, Riley, Logan, Dustin, Kyle, Levi and Kaela.
The Rev. Cheri Lyon will officiate the services.
A visitation will be held at 2 p.m. today. A gathering for family and friends will be held at the family home following services.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to a charity of choice.
