Joe Lester McWilliams, 93, of Farwell, died Sunday, April 24, 2005, in Farwell.
He was born on June 29, 1911. in Hope, Ark., to Elmer and Blanche McWilliams.
The family moved to Hall County, Texas, in 1924 and to Las Cruces in 1931. He moved near Lariat, Texas, in 1935. He married Beulah Donaldson on June 4, 1938. They farmed near Lariat until retiring in 1980, when they moved to Farwell. He was ordained a deacon in the Texico Baptist Church in 1944. He was a charter member of the First Baptist Church in Farwell, where he taught boys’ Sunday school.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Edwin, Ray, Gordon, and Clarence McWilliams; and a sister, Vera Blackston.
Survivors include his wife; two brothers-in-law; five sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces and nephews.
The Rev. Richard Laverty will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Sunset Terrace Cemetery in Farwell.
Pallbearers are Laverne, Donald, and Roger McWilliams; Billy, Roger, and Lynn Sparks; Wayne and Robert Tucker; Roy and Larry Donaldson; Galen and Brad Hromas, and Don and Richard Carpenter.
Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.
