A young child was removed from Cannon Air Force Base on Tuesday and placed into protective custody, sheriff’s officials said.
Curry County Sheriff Roger Hatcher said the deputy who responded to the call indicated the child was in danger.
Hatcher wouldn’t elaborate on the condition or the circumstances involving the child.
Cannon officials said no specific information would be released on the case, to protect the privacy of the family involved.
“In cases where such action may be necessary for the welfare of the child, the Air Force works with the Children Youth and Families Department, which has the authority to take custody,” said Capt. Andre Kok with Cannon Public Affairs. “To protect the privacy interest of the families involved, the Air Force does not release information about (CYFD) intervention affecting Air Force families.”
CYFD spokesman Matt Dillman would not confirm or deny the agency had received a child into protective custody from the air base.
