Oscar Cleare, the music minister for Faith Christian Family Church, has been singing since he was 10. First inspired by his preacher father in Illinois, Cleare has sung at malls throughout New Mexico and Texas and he’s compiled a Christmas CD with another CD on the way.
That was his voice that trumpeted the words of the “Star Spangled Banner” to open Friday’s Base Realignment and Closure hearing at Marshall Junior High.
“I’m not just singing to entertain,” he said. “To me it’s to bring joy to somebody. There’s a joy in ministry to sing about the Lord. It’s the words that are important. Music needs to be uplifting to your spirit.”
Cannon Air Force base brought him to Clovis in 1981 when he joined the military and was stationed here.
“It was an honor to be asked (by event coordinator Beverlee McClure) to sing at the hearing,” Cleare said.
