E.C. “Shorty” Kelley, 82, of Phoenix, formerly of Earth, Texas, died Wednesday, June 1, 2005, in Phoenix.

He was born on Nov. 6, 1922, in Eldorado, Okla., to John and Clara Kelley.

He was a veteran of World War II. He served in the U.S. Army in Sicily, Naples, southern France, Rhineland Rome and Central Europe. He was awarded the American Defense Service Ribbon, a Silver Star and a Bronze Star. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Earth Volunteer Fire Department. He served several years on the city council and as mayor for two terms.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; three sisters; and six brothers.

Survivors include three sons, Randal C. Kelley of Farwell, Keevin Kelley of Plainview, Texas, and Kyle Kelley of Phoenix; a daughter, Carolyn Bennett of Suprize, Ariz.; a brother, Francis Kelley of Olton, Texas; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Ron Kelley and the Rev. Jeff Huckeby will officiate the services.

Burial will be at Sunset Terrace cemetery in Farwell.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Earth Volunteer Fire Department.
