Mr. Arsenio “Archie” Montoya, 86, of Albuquerque, died Wednesday, June 22, 2005, in Albuquerque.
He was born on June 27, 1918, in Romeroville, to Maria and Isidro Montoya.
He married Margaret “Maggie” Armijo on May 5, 1935, in Las Vegas, N.M. During World War II he served in the Army. In Las Vegas he worked in the oil fields as a truck driver and later as a police officer. In 1961 he moved to Portales, where he worked for Borden Peanut Co., Williams Peanuts, and Selected Casings. In 1980 he moved to Las Vegas, N.M., where he worked as a night clerk at El Fidel Hotel. Family members said he enjoyed his faithful Chihuahua, Milagro.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents, three brothers, Leopoldo Montoya and two who died as infants, three sisters, Adela Armijo, Martina Montoya and Petra Gomez, a son, Ernest Montoya, a daughter, Lucille Gutierrez, a grandchild and by his wife, Maggie, who died Aug. 27, 1971.
Survivors include seven sons, Arsenio Montoya Jr., Tommy Montoya (and wife, Alice), David Montoya (Cecilia), Robert Montoya (Lupe), Joe Montoya, all of Portales, Rudy Montoya (Imelda) of Odessa, Texas, and Miguel Montoya (fiancé, Priscilla Romero) of Albuquerque; four daughters, Gloria Archuleta (Manuel) and Mary Lou Lucero (Jake), all of Las Vegas, N.M., Beatrice Lopez (Jake) of Portales, and Geraldine Gallegos (David) of Albuquerque; 43 grandchildren, including Ernest Gutierrez; 77 great-grandchildren; 25 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Angie Tapia of Portales.
A rosary is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Helen Catholic Church in Portales.
Father Tobin Hitt will officiate the services.
Burial will be at Portales Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Arsenio Jr., Tommy, David, Rudy, Robert, Joe, and Miguel Montoya.
