Mr. Julius Jordan “Jay” Johnson Jr., 73, of Clovis, died Saturday, June 25, 2005, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
He was born Dec. 20, 1931, in Yeso, to Julius and Vera Johnson.
Johnson was a retired captain of the Clovis Fire Department. He served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He married Eva Lou on July 24, 1990, in Santa Fe. He loved practical jokes and taking care of his yard, especially the rose garden and tomato bed. He rarely missed a ball game, concert, graduation, wedding or any other activity that included his family. He kept up with current events and openly expressed his opinions. There were always lots of laughs when he was around. He expressed his love for others by always being helpful and kind.
He is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Evelyn Tatham; a brother-in-law, Gus Wolff; and his first wife, Edna JoAnn (Keylon) Johnson.
Survivors include his wife of the home; three daughters, Carol Baldwin (and husband, Darryl) of Clovis, Vera Hankins (Rick) of Albuquerque, and Terry Wood (Jim) of Ruidoso; four sons, Johnny Johnson (Sabrina) of Portales, Mark Mann (Kim) of Houston, Anthony Mann of Clovis, and Russell Mann (Kelly) of Manchester, N.H.; 14 grandchildren, Jaime Wood, Talia Wood, Kendra Maudlin (Josh), Jennifer Ware (Ryan), Jason Hankins (Sarah), Jaclyn Harwell (David), Jarod Baldwin, Billy Mann, Kelli Johnson, Katie Mann, Tyler Johnson, Nathan Mann, Alyssa Mann, and Elizabeth Mann; a sister, Tommie Wolff; a brother, Gearld Johnson (Jobeth); one brother-in-law, Lee Tatham; and several nieces and nephews.
Burial will be at Lawn Haven Memorial Gardens in Clovis.
Mike Kennedy will officiate with assistance of Rev. Dick Ross.
Pallbearers are the Clovis Fire Department Honor Guard.
Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home of Clovis.
