Michael Rostal Mack, 59, of Fort Sumner died Saturday, July 23, 2005, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
He was born June 8, 1946, in Safford, Ariz. to Rostal and Madeline (Talley) Mack.
He was reared in the Gila Valley and graduated from Safford High School. He married Linda Claridge on July 16, 1984. He was a lifelong cowboy and was currently ranch manager for Harvey Ranches in De Baca, Otero and Torrance counties. He lived in Fort Sumner since 1994.
He served as chairman of the De Baca County Republican Party and was in his second term as Fort Sumner councilman. He was appointed mayor pro-tem during this second term.
He was a member of Clovis Ward of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, New Mexico Cattlemen’s Association and Farm Bureau. He loved to read, enjoyed leatherwork and could “doctor” any animal in his care., according to family members.
Mike was preceded in death by his father, Rostal Mack.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jake Mack (and wife, Jennifer) of Pima, Ariz.; Tanner Mack (Jennifer) of Fort Sumner; a daughter, Lacie Miller (Ross) of Fort Hood, Texas; two brothers, William Mack (Diane) of Missouri; Chris Mack (Kim) of Safford, Ariz.; two sisters, Sue Ward (Freddy) and Nina Carpenter (Joel), all of Safford, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, Kelsi, Braeden, Brittany, Samantha, Jade Marie, Emily and Caidan Mack and Jayda Miller and several nieces and nephews.
Max Torres will officiate services. A reception will follow the funeral services at the Fort Sumner Community House.
Burial will take place at 6 p.m. at Central Community Cemetery in Central, Ariz. A reception will follow at the home of Don and Virginia Ross in Thatcher, Ariz.
Visitation hours will be Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
