A 23-year-old Clovis man died early Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash north of Clovis.

According to a press release from the New Mexico State Police, Aaron Gonzales was killed just after 1 a.m. at the intersection of State Road 209, Curry Road 14 and State Road 77.

Police say Gonzales was a passenger in a Ford Mustang being driven by Shad Defoor, 18, that was traveling east on Curry Road 14. According to the press release, Defoor failed to stop at the stop sign at the intersection with State Road 209 and a pick-up truck traveling north struck the Mustang on the passenger side.

The Mustang hit a dirt embankment and turned over 1 1/4 times, the report said. The pick-up truck, driven by Calvin White, 62, of Grady, skidded off the east side of State Road 209 and came to rest, according to the report.

Gonzales was pronounced dead at the scene.

Defoor and two passengers in the pick-up truck were taken to Plains Regional Medical Center for treatment. Police said they are listed in either stable to good condition.

No charges have been filed in this case and the investigation continues.
