Doris Lee Pleasant, 78, of Clovis, died Friday, July 29, 2005, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
She was born on July 23, 1927, in Covington, Va., to Jesse and Dorothy Empy Davis.
She worked at Clovis Hotel, Holiday Inn and the American Legion Post 117. Her life’s work was being an adopted mother and grandmother to many children in Clovis. She was a member of St. John Baptist.
Family members said she enjoyed working in her yard, planting flowers, decorating for holidays, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin Jackson; and a sister, Elizabeth Holloway.
Survivors include the father of her children, Thomas L. Pleasant of Clovis; seven daughters, Marvis A. DeSears (and husband, Ron) of Atlanta, Tracy Lopez (Sergio), Elizabeth Davis, Ellen Pleasant and Doretha Waites, all of Clovis, Connie Sanders of Arlington, Texas, and Francine Pleasant of Cary, N.C.; two sons, Venoil Joseph of Carton, Colo., and William Pleasant (Margarita) of Albuquerque; a sister, Elnora Tyler of Covington, Va.; five godchildren, Patricia Corrica, Lucy Cordova, Patricia Ceniceros, Patricia Tims and Josie Bards; 21 grandchildren; and 36 great-grandchildren.
The Rev. Joe L. Callahan Jr., Bishop W. Charles Green, the Rev. Waymon Dowdy and the Rev. R.L. Smith will officiate the services.
Visitation is scheduled from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. today at Muffley Funeral Home in Clovis.
Burial will be at Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis.
Pallbearers are Andre Williams, Julari Pleasant, Quinn Culiver, Jamaal Williams, Tranell Pleasant, Lorenzo Chavez, Curtis Thompso, and Angel Baros.
Honorary pallbearers are her great-grandsons.
