Mr. Henry “Hank” Brockoff, 78, of Portales, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005, at his home.

He was born on Oct. 22, 1926, in Green Isle, Minn., to Pauline and Albert Brockoff.

He lived in the area around Green Isle until 1950 when he entered the Army. He was stationed in Korea and Japan. He was awarded the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. After his discharge in 1952, he moved to Fortuna, Calif., where he drove logging trucks. After several years, he was able to purchase his own rig, and continued to drive logging trucks until his retirement in 1992. In 2003 he moved to Portales.

Family members said he enjoyed gathering with friends for coffee each morning, fishing at Oasis State Park, traveling and woodworking.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and eight brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Juanita of Portales; a step-son, Kevin Duke of Westland, Mich.; three step-daughters, Myra Barnum of Portales, Joy Sturgil (and husband, Steve) of Apple Valley, Calif., and Dawn Shewsberry (Dominic) of Royal Oak, Mich.; seven step-grandchildren; a step-great-grandchild; a brother, Larry Brockhoff (Betty) of Minneapolis, Minn.; a niece, Lori Coleman (Craig) and her children, Jarin and Michael of Fortuna, Calif.
