HOBBS — The Clovis High volleyball team clinched a tie for the District 4-5A regular-season title and tied the school’s consecutive wins record Thursday night with a 25-20, 23-25, 25-22, 25-14 victory over Hobbs.
Senior Aimee Hilburn had 10 kills for the Lady Wildcats (13-5, 3-0 district), who stretched their winning streak nine and beat Hobbs for the second time in a week. Clovis rallied from a two-game deficit to beat the Lady Eagles on Oct. 6 at Rock Staubus Gym.
Hobbs (12-7, 0-2) took 7-1 and 21-15 leads in the second game and allowed the Lady Cats to catch up only once, at 23-23, before putting the game away. Clovis stayed in control most of the way in the third and fourth games, pulling away late in the fourth game to win comfotably.
“They’re a tough matchup for us,” CHS coach Darrel Ray said of the Lady Eagles. “They do two things better than most teams — they serve well, and they block better than anyone we’ve played this year.”
The Lady Cats face Goddard on Tuesday in Roswell, then travel to Carlsbad two nights later for the district and regular-season finale.
