Dean Moore, 73, of Portales, died Sunday afternoon, Sept. 4, 2005, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
He was born March 5, 1932, in Baileyboro, Texas, to Syble and Curtis Moore. The Moore family moved to Portales from Morton, Texas, in 1942. Dean was a member of the class of 1950 at Portales High School.
He went on to attend a semester at Eastern New Mexico University before leaving for Marine boot camp in January of 1951. He served as an MP in Guam and later Japan.
On Sept. 17, 1953, in Portales he was married to Helen Elliott. The family moved back to Portales in 1955. He worked for Price’s Creamery until March of 1957, when he went to work in the Post Office. He retired in 1987 with 31 years of service.
Moore loved to play softball. He played from age 14 to 43. He was a member of the Boothe Powell Bombers Team that played in the National Softball Tournament.
He was a member of the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ.
He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Kenneth (Byrnadean) Moore; a grandchild, Bryan Moore, and a great-grandchild, Dylan Linthicum.
He is suvived by his wife, Helen of their home; one son, Michael (wife Deborah) Moore of Midwest City, Okla.; a daughter, Deanna (Troies) Linthicum of Roswell; five grandchildren, Brandon (Brooke) Linthicum, Ryan (Brandi) Linthicum, Jana (Robbie) Glenn, Joseph (Amy) Moore and Michael Ray Moore; two great-grandchildren, Johnathan Moore and Branson Linthicum; his mother, Syble Moore of Portales and one brother, Leon (Paula) Moore of Las Cruces.
David Bennett and Matt Rush will officiate.
Burial will follow at Portales Cemetery.
Marshall Durham, Keith Durham, Ralph Leonard, Howard Stokes, Shannon Gorrell and Dale Parrish will serve as pallbearers.
Wayne Gunn, Travis Foster, and Jerry Courtney, along with his other golfing and softball friends, will act as honorary pallbearers.
