Wanda F. Rowlett, 65, of Florence, Texas, died Sunday, Nov. 6, 2005 at Scott & White Hospital in Temple, Texas.
She was born April 2, 1940, in Austin, Texas. She married Joe Rowlett in Portales on July 15, 1978. She made her home in Florence, Texas, for a number of years.
Family members said was generous and unselfish person who enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and dancing, family members said.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Agnes Townsend; her father and step-mother, Kay and M. W. Maxey; her father-in-law, Sidney L. Wilson; two infant daughters, Joyce and Mary; a grandson, Trey G. Davis; and a great-grandson, Michael G. Davis.
Survivors include her husband, a son, Bryan Nichols of Florence, a step-son, Andy Bright (and wife, Christy) of Amarillo; two daughters, Kerry Hunziker (Robert) of Florence and Jo Lynn Obella (Gilbert) of Bryan-College Station, Texas; two step-daughters, Michelle Houk of Childress, Texas, and Kim Powers (Dan) of Amarillo; 12 grandchildren, Kelly L. Rowlett, Tiffany and Tessa Preston Davis, Teena and Autora Morales, Joshua Nichols, Norman and Joe Jeter, Kerie, Katie, Leanna and Malcolm Nichols; two step-grandchildren, Autumn Bright and Allan Houk; numerous great-grandchildren; her mother-in-law, Ruby Wilson of Portales; six brothers, Phil Helton of Amarillo, Bobby Helton (Wanda) of Kansas, Johnny Helton of Alabama, Gary Maxey (Pat) of Amarillo, Mac Maxey of Dalhart, Texas, and W.D. Maxey of Buena Vista, Colo.; three sisters, Maxine Reed of Galveston, Texas, Ruby Deathrage of Buena Vista, Colo. and Pam Williams of Brady, Texas; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Final services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Wheeler Mortuary Chapel in Portales.
The Rev. Steve Smith is officiating.
Burial will take place in Portales Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.
