AMARILLO — Eastern New Mexico University got complete-game pitching efforts from Rosemary Moreno and Natasha Lindsey and posted a pair of wins on Friday in the West Texas A&M Invitational softball tournament.
The Zias (6-3) scored six runs in the bottom of the first in a 9-3 victory over Colorado State-Pueblo, then notched an 8-1 win over Adams State in their second game.
ENMU faces Regis at 11 a.m. and Oklahoma Panhandle State at 1:30 p.m. today, then closes with games against Fort Hays State at 10 a.m. and New Mexico Highlands at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday. All times are MST.
Moreno (3-1) was the beneficiary of the early offensive rally against Pueblo. The Zias sent 10 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first, with Brianna Darnell’s two-run double highlighting the onslaught.
Moreno allowed seven hits and two earned runs, with one walk and five strikeouts.
Lindsey (3-2) surrendered six hits with two walks and six strikeouts against Adams State. The Zias scored in every inning except the second, getting a two-run homer from senior shortstop Jessica Nocas — her third of the season — in the bottom of the sixth to cap the scoring.
Left fielder Christina Helland went 3-for-4 to lead a 10-hit attack for the Zias.
