Evelyn Hazelton, 87, of Clovis, died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, at her home. She was born Nov. 21, 1918, in Ricardo, to David and Nola Bradford.
She was the daughter of a share-cropper cotton farmer and she learned a strong work ethic young, family members said. Dragging a cotton sack or swinging a hoe in a hot west Texas summer made other jobs seem easy in comparison, they said.
She worked for many years as a silk finisher in several local cleaners. Her main occupation and passion was loving and raising her children, family members said. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren were a source of great joy for her, family members said.
She was an original member of the congregation of the Church of Christ at 11th and Sheldon Streets. Her faith sustained her throughout her life, family members said.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and four brothers, Ope, D.C., Charlie, and Leonard Bradford.
She is survived by a son, Christopher Hazelton (and wife, Marion) of League City, Texas; two daughters, Kathy (Mac) McDaniel of Clovis and Mary Ackley of Clovis; a sister, Ila Mae Wheeler of Overton Park, Kan.; three grandchildren, Chris Hazelton Jr. (Melissa), Kevin Ackley and Kyle Ackley, all of Clovis; four great-grandchildren, Christinia, Brooklyn, Kaden and Maxx; and two sisters-in-law, Betty Jackson and Pauline Bradford.
Van McCormick will officiate.
Burial will be at Mission Garden of Memories in Clovis.
Arrangements are by Steed-Todd Funeral Home in Clovis.
