Clarence J. “Cherry” Moore , 93, of Clovis died Monday, Jan. 30, 2006, at Plains Regional Medical Center.
He was born on Jan. 5, 1913, in Eastland County, Texas, to Houston Wheeler Moore and Ellen Redwine Moore.
He grew up on a farm in Goree, Texas, and started a career in business in 1932. He married Bernell Green in 1932. He and his family moved to Fort Worth in 1942, where he worked in the aircraft industry during the war. He was a buyer and merchandiser for a large department store in the Fort Worth/Dallas area before moving to Clovis in 1965, where he worked as buyer and manager of McDaniel Furniture.
He served as a deacon, Sunday School teacher, and in many other positions in University Baptist Church in Fort Worth and Central Baptist Church in Clovis.
He was a Mason for 65 years and a member of The Shrine.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Bernell Green Moore; his parents and three sisters, Luna Purdue, Zoe Moore and Lavera Ford.
He is survived by a wife of 20 years, Winnie Brown Moore, a daughter, Brenda Moore Morris (and husband, C. Gwin) of Houston; a grandson Scott Morris (Laura); a grandson, Brent Morris, a great grandson, Austin, all of Dallas; a step-daughter, Louise Brown Creek (Lee Roy) of Colorado, a step-son, Glenn Brown (Toni) of Arizona, and five step-grandchildren Teri Kay Brown and Brown, Lori Brown Randolph, Judy Creek Lockwood, and Kathy Creek Hargrave, seven great step-grandchildren; and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Ralph Phillips, Larry Roberts, J.E. Williams, Scott Morris, Brent Morris, Glenn Brown, LeRoy Creek and Travis Denton.
Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Central Baptist Church and his Sunday School Class, “Charley’s Angels.”
Memorial contributions may be made to the Baptist Children’s Home in Portales or the FUEL Building fund at Central Baptist Church.
