Collins, Clarine

Clarine Collins, 92, of Clovis died Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006, at Laurel Plains Healthcare.

She was born March 1, 1913, in Lynn County, Texas, to Fred and Eliza Leavett Thomas. She was raised by various family members and friends, including spending a year or more in the Baptist Children’s Home in Portales.

She married Roy Collins in 1928 in Grady, where they made their home and started their family. In 1937 they moved to the Running Water Draw northwest of Clovis in the Claud community, where they made their home for the next 44 years.

She was a homemaker, mother and active in the Claud Rainy Day Club. After her boys were grown she worked as a bookkeeper at Ranchers and Farmers Livestock Auction and in the Curry County Tax Assessor’s office. She moved to Clovis in 1981.

She was a member of Kingswood Methodist Church.

Family members said she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and knitting and had many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, five brothers, Nathan, Perry, George, Earl and F. P. “Buster” Thomas ;and a granddaughter, Vickie Salazar.

She is survived by three sons, Clark Collins of Texico, Dave Collins (and wife, Iva) of Portales and Pat Collins of Clovis; nine grandchildren; Johnny Collins of Los Alamos, Ivan Collins of Spring, Texas, Debora Birdsong of Stamford, Texas, Linda Coiner and Elida Henderlite of Clovis, Denise Collins of Bradenton, Fla., Deborah Thorpe of Peru, Ind., Jennifer Morgan of Dallas and Houston Collins of Seattle, 16 great-grandchildren and four great great-grandchildren.

Burial will be at the Grady Cemetery.

Family members suggest memorial contributions be made to the Federation for the Blind.
