Mr. Tommy Montoya, 59, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at his residence in Portales.
He was born Dec. 5, 1946, Las Vegas, N.M., to Margaret and Arsenio Montoya.
He grew up in Las Vegas and moved to Portales as a teenager. He married Alice Saiz on July 3, 1970, in Portales. He served in the U.S. National Guard for 22 years and worked for the Portales Public Schools for 27 years before retiring in 2002.
Family members said he enjoyed visiting casinos, playing poker and was an avid reader.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Ernest Montoya; and a sister, Lucille Gutierrez.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Michael Saiz of San Antonio, Texas, and T. Mark Montoya (and wife, Katy) of Flagstaff, Ariz.; six brothers, Arsenio Montoya Jr., David Montoya (Cecilia), Robert Montoya (Lupe) and Joe Montoya, all of Portales, Rudy Montoya (Imelda) of Odessa, Texas, and Miguel Montoya (and fiancée, Priscilla) of Albuquerque; four sisters, Gloria Archuleta (Manuel) and Mary Lou Lucero (Jake), all of Las Vegas, N.M., Beatrice Lopez (Jake) of Portales and Geraldine (David) Gallegos of Rio Rancho; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Father James McGowan will be the celebrant.
Burial is at Portales Cemetery.
A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Helen Catholic Church
Pallbearers will be his godchildren, Viola Gonzales, Daniel Saiz, Sammy Montoya, Victor Lopez Jr., Rudy Montoya Jr., Sonia Hernandez, David Lucero and Alvi Baca.
Honorary pallbearers will be all family members and friends.
