Wilver Soderberg, 93, of Carlsbad died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at Plains Regional Hospital.
He was born Feb. 29, 1912, in Isabel, S.D.
He married Gertrude Schmitt on June 2, 1936.
He left to serve in the Pacific Theater during World War II on Oct. 29, 1943. He achieved the naval rank of storekeeper 2nd class before being honorably discharged on Jan. 7, 1946.
He returned to the states and his family in Albert Lea, Minn., where they quickly pulled up stakes. They made a home in Northwood, Iowa. He and his family then moved from Iowa to Utah, Wyoming and in Carlsbad in 1966.
He was a lifetime member of the Elks.
Family members said hard work, good golf and great fishing defined his character and his loves, which he has passed on to his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife April 26, 1992.
He is survived by three children, Virginia McLemore (and husband, Loren) of Branson Mo., Robert Soderberg (Margaret) of Longview, Texas, and Julie Smith (Danny) of Clovis; seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren
The Carlsbad Veterans Honor Guard will perform military honors at the service.
Arrangements are by West Funeral Home in Carlsbad.
