A 16-year-old male suspect slipped out of his handcuffs and escaped from a police car Saturday afternoon in the parking lot of the Curry County Juvenile Detention Center, running four to five blocks before he was apprehended, said Clovis Police Public Information Officer Lt. James Schoeffel.
Officials found a small amount of methamphetamine hidden in the suspect’s sock during a search at the Curry County Juvenile Detention Center. The juvenile was charged with assault on a police officer, escaping from custody and possession of methamphetamine, Schoeffel said.
The 5-foot-8, 130-pound juvenile was arrested in the 1200 block of Lea Street after he tried to punch a police officer who was serving a pair of warrants at the residence, Schoeffel said.
The juvenile was not one of the suspects named on the warrant, said Schoeffel.
