LEVELLAND, Texas — Clovis coach Shane Shallenberger knows something is wrong when his team scores 10 runs and takes a loss.

The Wildcats allowed five unearned runs and fell 11-10 at Levelland.

“I think we hurt ourselves,” Shallenberger said. “We had too many miscues defensively.”

After scoring four runs in the top of the seventh to tie the game at 10, the Lobos plated the tiebreaking run in the bottom half on a throwing error by Clovis (5-4).

“When you score 10 runs,” Shallenberger said. “You should win the ballgame. We gave them five free runs.”

The Wildcats jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning, but Levelland closed the gap and tied the game 6-6 in the third.

The Lobos scored four in the bottom of the sixth to take a seemingly commanding lead heading into the final inning.

“You can’t win if you don’t play ‘D’,” Shallenberger said.

Clovis senior Matt Uilbari went 1-for-4 with a home run, senior Daniel Casarez went 2-for-3 with a RBI double, and Parker Wood went 2-for-4 with two singles and an RBI.

Randy Gaona pitched a complete game and picked up a win for Levelland.
