Byron R. “Bud” Grover, 71, of Midland, died on Friday, March 10, 2006.

The family will receive friends Monday, March 13, 2006, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home in Midland.

U.S. Army Pfc. Ricky Salas Jr.

11 a.m. Monday at St. John’s Catholic Church in Roswell

Pfc. Ricky Salas Jr., 22, of Roswell, died Tuesday, March 7, 2006, in Tal Afar, Iraq, while serving his country in the U.S. Army.

He was born Oct. 19, 1983, in Lubbock to Brenda Robertson and Ric Salas Sr.

He married April Baca on Sept. 21, 2002, and was the father of a daughter, Jordan, 3, and son, Jarrod, 1.

His life was devoted to his family, and he was a wonderful husband and son, family members said, with his faith in God, family and friends as the most important things in his life. He loved to have “daddy-daughter” dates with his daughter, and he had many dreams for his son, including building a car, according to family members. He also liked to golf, swim, hunt and spend time in Hondo with friends and family, they said.

He joined the Army in March 2005. He graduated in May 2005 from basic training at Fort Knox, Ky. He was stationed in Friedburg, Germany, and was deployed to Tal Afar as an armor crewman.

He is survived by his wife, son and daughter; his mother of Clovis and his father of Lubbock; a sister, Melissa Guiterrez of Lubbock; three brothers, Roger and Daniel Salas of Clovis, and Randy Salas of Lubbock; his mother- and father-in-law, Ray and Victoria Baca; grandparents Eliseo and Francis Salas of Graham, Texas, and Carrol and Eunice Robertson of Mission, Texas; nine nieces, four nephews, and numerous aunts and uncles.

Friends may pay their respects from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. today at La Grone Funeral Chapel in Roswell.

A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at St. John’s Catholic Church.

Father Juan Montoya will officiate services.

Interment with military honors will follow at South Park Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Pfc. Ricky Salas Jr. Memorial Fund in care of the Memorial Trust Fund at Bank of the Southwest to benefit his two children.
