A special agent with the New Mexico Department of Public Safety has been placed on administrative leave with pay while authorities conduct a criminal investigation against her, the agent’s attorney said on Tuesday.
Delores Ledezma-Pinon, who works with the Special Investigations Division in Clovis, was placed on leave last week, according to her attorney, Rob Perry of Albuquerque.
Perry said Ledezma-Pinon has not been told why she is under investigation and she is “dumbfounded” by the DPS actions against her.
Ledezma-Pinon could not be reached for comment. Perry said he would not allow his client to talk with reporters.
DPS Communications Director Peter Olson said it would be “inappropriate” to comment on personnel matters. He would not confirm or deny that Ledezma-Pinon has been placed on administrative leave.
Perry said Ledezma-Pinon has worked in Curry County law enforcement about 17 years, including the last nine years with the state.
“We’ve reviewed all of her personal and professional activities over many years and … we’re fully confident she will be exonerated of any allegations of impropriety,” Perry said.
Perry said DPS officials are working with him to arrange a meeting so that Ledezma-Pinon can be told of the allegations against her. No date has been set, he said, but he hopes the issue will be resolved by week’s end.
The Clovis News Journal was unable to find any court records related to Ledezma-Pinon’s case on Tuesday.
