Lady Wildcats win third straight meet

ALAMOGORDO — Kim Perkins swept the 100- and 300-meter hurdles and added another win in the triple jump, helping Clovis to the team title Friday at the Alamogordo Qualifier.

Caitlin Waters (800 meters), Lorena Garza (discus) and Vanessa O’Neal (long jump) aslo notched first place finishes as Clovis netted 146 points, 16 ahead of Cibola.

The Lady Wildcats also won the 800 and 1,600 relays and finished second in the 400 and medley en route to their third straight meet title.

In the boys meet, Tanner Fickling won the 200 meters and Brian Mead the 110 hurdles as Clovis finished third behind Rio Rancho and Alamogordo.

Carlsbad sweeps Lady Cats in 4-5A

The Clovis Lady Wildcats were mercy-ruled twice 11-1, 10-0 in a doubleheader at Carlsbad.

The Lady Cats (12-12, 0-6 District 4-5A) scored the first run of the twin bill in the top of the first inning, but were held scoreless for the other nine innings.

The second game was scoreless through three innings, but The Cavegirls (16-5, 6-0) exploded for five runs in the fourth, then scored five more to end the game in the bottom of the fifth.
