City asks for voluntary water conservation

The city of Clovis is initiating a Stage 1 water watch and asking residents to monitor water usage.

“We (New Mexico) are in a drought situation,” said City Manager Joe Thomas. “This is a reminder to people to conserve water.”

Thomas said the Water Authority Advisory Board determined earlier in the year that May would be the best time to implement the strictly voluntary watch.

Stage 1 water watch:
Residents are asked to follow these procedures for watering lawns:
• Even addresses are asked to water on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
• Odd addresses are asked to water on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
• Residents are asked to refrain from watering lawns on Monday.
• No outdoor watering between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.
• Check sprinklers for overspray or leakage to avoid water running off into the streets.
