A 19-year-old Clovis man died early Saturday evening from injuries sustained when the vehicle in which he was riding rolled over on Pleasant Hill Highway about 5 miles north of Clovis, according to Curry County Deputy Sheriff Glenn Russ.

Federico Martinez-Villarreal, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at 6:35 p.m. at Plains Regional Medical Center. He died of severe head and throat trauma, Russ said.

Two other passengers in the extended-cab pickup, Yolando Moreno, 19, and Miguel Carrasquedo, 22, both of Clovis, refused transportation for medical treatment, according to Russ.

Moreno and Carrasquedo said initially the driver fled the scene on foot, Russ said. The sheriff’s department has since received information that there was no fourth person in the vehicle, and the incident is under investigation, according to the deputy sheriff.

The vehicle was owed by Moreno’s mother, Russ said.
