Fred Gonzales, 84, of El Paso, Texas, died Tuesday, May 23, 2006, in El Paso, Texas.
He was born Nov. 17, 1921, to Dimas and Virginia Gonzales in Elida, where he grew up and attended schools. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He married Severiana (Cleo) Contreras in El Paso, where they made their home. He was employed by the Bradley Paint Company based in El Paso until his retirement.
Family members said he enjoyed family, friends and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Albert Gonzales; an infant son, Russell Gonzales; and four sisters, Nicholasa Gonzales, Ascension Harral, Marie Smith and Lupe Contreras.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Miguel, Cruz and Alfredo; three daughters, Rosa Maria Valenzuela, Virginia Gonzales and Cristina Gonzales; three sisters, Sue Crume of Clovis, Aurora Gardner and Connie Gonzales of Elida; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial took place at Fort Bliss National Cemetery in Texas with full military honors.
