A series of bills, including two proposed by U.S. Sen. Pete Domenici (R-N.M.) that will provide a total of $1.385 million in federal educational funding to Eastern New Mexico University, was approved by a U.S. Senate Committee on Thursday, according to a news release from Domenici’s office.
The Senate Appropriations Committee, of which Domenici is a member, reaffirmed approval of $500,000 in funding for ENMU as part of the FY2007 Transportation, Treasury, the Judiciary and Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Bill, the press release said.
Added to that is another $885,000 for ENMU as part of the FY2007 Labor, Heath and Human Services, and Education Appropriations Bill.
The press release said the bills would allow ENMU to purchase foreign-language laboratory computer equipment that will support an institutional effort to improve technology used for student instruction.
“This funding is intended to contribute to the ENMU effort to improve education with state-of-the-art technology. I am impressed with the progress that this university has made, and I am sure that it will attract a larger number of prospective students,” Domenici said.
Both measures are ready for consideration by the full Senate.
