The Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce is selling tickets for an appreciation dinner to honor retired Gen. Lloyd “Fig” Newton.
Newton served on the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure Commission and proposed sparing Cannon Air Force Base from closure.
About 50 tickets remain for the dinner, and about 160 people already are expected to attend, according to Chamber Executive Director Ernie Kos.
The event — organized by a branch of the Chamber that lobbies on behalf of Cannon, the Committee of 50 — will begin at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Clovis Civic Center.
Tickets are $30 and may be purchased at the Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce, 102 E. Grand Ave., until noon today, according to Kos.
Clovis Mayor David Lansford and Portales Mayor Orlando Ortega are slated to speak during the event.
