ROSWELL — Clovis High’s girls took three of the top five positions and the Lady Wildcats cruised to a team title on Saturday in the Southeast New Mexico Invitational cross country meet, hosted by New Mexico Military.
Caitlin Waters finished second, Nicole Johnson third and Michelle Schenck fifth for the Lady Cats, who finished with 36 points to 64 for District 4-5A rival Carlsbad.
Clovis’ boys, meantime, finished second with 52 points, trailing Carlsbad (33). James Chavez led the Wildcats, placing seventh in 17 minutes, 30 seconds.
“The girls are in good position to win the district,” CHS coach Mark Bussen said. “I think our girls should finish in the top three or four t eams in the state.
“The boys have just really improved. Hopefully, we can give Carlsbad a run for the district title.”
